On October 16, the WCEE Scholars at Risk Fellows joined others from Metro Detroit for a 5K walk/run on Belle Isle in Detroit to raise funds to rebuild schools in Chernihiv, Ukraine. The event was organized by the Ukrainian-American Crisis Response Committee of Michigan.

The Detroit News has a story about the event: "Belle Isle event raises $31K to rebuild Ukraine school." Oksana Chabanyuk, WCEE Fellow and associate professor of architecture and head of the M.A. in architecture and urban planning program at Kharkiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, was quoted in the story. "It's a very heartbreaking emotion that all of us have about Russian aggression against Ukraine from the very first days of the war and attacks," she said.
