2015 Workshop

Over 20 NGO leaders participated in the first session of the NGO Leadership Workshop, which was held in October 2015. This program is the joint creation of three partners: the Weiser Center for Europe & Eurasia (WCEE), the Pontis Foundation, and the William Davidson Institute (WDI) at the University of Michigan. It leverages the unique competencies of two University of Michigan units—both focused on strengthening emerging democracies—as well as the local insight of the Slovak-based Pontis Foundation, which works to support democratization and the development of civil society.

The workshop targeted leaders of organizations in countries that have experienced great change over the past three decades, as their societies have undergone democratic transitions. The 20 participants were selected through an open application process and received the training at no charge. Selected leaders from Albania, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Tunisia, and Ukraine represented NGOs which focus on democracy, human rights, economic development, youth, and civil society.
