The Financial Times speaks at length with U-M alums Jan Berris (BA, 1966; MA, 1976) and Yuhua Wang (PhD, 2011) about difficulties confronting today's emerging China experts as they advise the US government and other organizations.

The article notes that Berris "fears that as the most recent Chinese studies graduates in the US — who could not visit China because of the pandemic — enter government agencies and Beltway consultancies, the input into Washington China policy will quickly become crude and shallow.."
