Dear Friends,

Last May, I went to Beijing, Shanghai, and Taipei in my first trip to Asia since the pandemic.  At universities, faculty told me:  "You're the first American faculty who's visited in the last three years."  I spent time with students at the UM-SJTU Joint Institute who dream of coming to Ann Arbor, met up with a theatre group to discuss the potential of a UM campus visit, talked about ways to further student internships, research, and language study.  (I also visited my grandparents' gravesite, offered fruit, burned gold paper, and reported on their grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities.)

People-to-people contact between China and the U.S. is so important in a time where politicians are doing their best to stir up anger and fear.  Your help makes it possible for us to support international students in Ann Arbor and American students in China.  It allows us to bring fabulous performers like the National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan this fall (over 400 people came to their concert in Hill Auditorium) and scholars pushing the boundaries of knowledge in the humanities and social sciences (you can watch our Noon Lecture Series on Zoom and see the archived videos here).  Thank you so much for making us a strong and vital voice in the world's understanding of China and Chinese societies.  We appreciate you!

Thank you for your support!

Your Gifts at Work

Gifts to the Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies (LRCCS) are used to support the full range of our scholarly, academic, and community activities.

“I am deeply grateful for the generous fellowship support I received from the UM-CCS during my MA years in AA. Giving back, as my (really) small token of appreciation”, said Xiao Chen, associate professor of management at University of Prince Edward Island.

“Without the funding from LRCCS, I wouldn't have had the financial resources to pursue a dual degree in Public Policy and Chinese, and most importantly would not have been able to create long-lasting connections to professors, peers, and friends,” said Lindsey-Grey Quint, LRCCS current MA student.
