PhD Programs

While the Center for Japanese Studies does not offer its own doctoral program, students can pursue doctoral degrees with a Japan focus in a number of departments and schools in the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies.  The Center supports a community of about one hundred doctoral and professional students with an interest in Japan in the humanities, social sciences, business, law, engineering, and medicine.  CJS is also the administrative home of the Japanese Studies Interdisciplinary Colloquium (JSIC), a Rackham Interdisciplinary Workshop for graduate and professional students interested in Japanese Studies.

The Center for Japanese Studies offers a variety of funding programs for graduate students in all schools and departments at the University of Michigan with an interest in Japan.  Please go to the Funding for Students section for more information.
