Your gift to CJS will support a wide range of CJS activities, including: student funding, academic programs, research, public events, outreach, and publications.

CJS is one of the nation's foremost institutes for interdisciplinary research and training on Japan. Founded in 1947, CJS is the oldest interdisciplinary center in the United States devoted exclusively to Japanese Studies. CJS's outstanding faculty of more than 55 area specialists come from varying humanities departments, social science departments, and professional schools. The Center offers an interdisciplinary MA program and joint MA/MBA. and MA/JD programs. Together with the Center for Chinese Studies and the Nam Center for Korean Studies, CJS is part of the East Asia National Resource Center supported by the Department of Education's Title VI grant program, and serves the community through public events and outreach.

For years, CJS has been supplementing federal and university funding by gifts and endowments. Because federal appropriations to support area studies centers are always at risk, CJS must find ways to assure its financial security independent of federal support. Your gift will help the Center with this effort and ensure the high quality of its programs.
