At the December 2021 graduation commencement, Daniel Iddrisu received his MA degree in African Studies, making him our third alum in the Masters in International and Regional Studies (MIRS) program. Our MIRS-program, administered in close collaboration with the Department of Afroamerican and African Studies, is flourishing, with five students currently in the program and a new cohort soon to be admitted!

Daniel joined the MIRS program in January 2020, with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Development Studies, Ghana. While at U-M, he worked closely with Cheryl Moyer (Medical School) as advisor for his MA thesis titled “Children’s Health and Well-being: An Analysis of Female-Headed Households in Northern Ghana”.  Currently, Daniel and Cheryl Moyer are finalizing several journal submissions based on their collaboration over the past year. Looking to the future, Daniel applied to PhD programs in public health and hopes to join one of these programs in the Fall 2022.

In addition to being a MA student, Daniel also worked as a student assistant with ASC during 2021, helping UMAPS scholars to find their footing on campus and helping out with various other tasks at ASC. We will miss Daniel’s optimism and energy at ASC. Daniel: We could not be more proud — best wishes for what comes next!
