Funding Awarded for African Humanities
We are delighted to announce that the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has today awarded a grant of $1.5 million jointly to WITS Institute for Social and Economic Research (WISER) at University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa and the African Studies Center at the University of Michigan for an international partnership in the development of the African Humanities. This substantial sum will support a five year program of pathbreaking workshops on major conceptual
questions shaping research in South Africa, Africa, and North America, one major aim of which is to strengthen the theoretical influence of academic writing on this continent. This is a wonderful honor, and we are thrilled about the opportunities it will present over the next five years.
