Zyaire Shih is pursuing a Masters in International and Regional Studies with a specialization in Chinese Studies. He graduated from National Chiao Tung University with a BA in humanities and social sciences in 2021, focusing on the evolution and decline of contemporary Chinese nationalism in online communities.
As a Taiwanese, Zyaire takes special interest in the historical entanglement between Taiwan and China as well as how this has affected Taiwan’s cultural diversity and national identification.
His main research interests include studying nationalism in Taiwan from a non-binary gender perspective and analyzing how echo chamber effects and cognitive warfare affect the sense of nationalism in different Taiwanese communities, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
