The University of Michigan offers graduate students a broad introduction to Latin American and Caribbean Studies. More than 250 graduate and professional school students currently enrolled at the university are interested in or working on some aspect of Latin American and Caribbean studies. These students are enrolled in over 25 departments and schools, from anthropology to urban planning. Each year, an average of 15 U-M graduate students complete doctoral dissertations specifically focused on Latin America and the Caribbean.
We encourage prospective U-M graduate students interested in the study of Latin America and the Caribbean to apply directly to a department or professional school with a degree program relevant to their specialization, and then to develop their area focus within the structure of that degree program. You can investigate the extent of a given department's focus on Latin America and the Caribbean by scanning the LACS-approved course offerings and the directory of LACS faculty associates.
To provide a framework for a focus on the region and to reward that focus with formal recognition, LACS has developed a Graduate Certificate Program in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. For more information, please contact the Graduate Program advisors at [email protected].
