Program Summary
CSAS provides up to $10,000 to help support the organization of conferences, seminars, workshops, and lecture series by CSAS Associates held on U-M Ann Arbor campus. These events should be open not only to UM faculty and students, but also to faculty and students from universities in the surrounding area.
- Preference will be given to proposals that involve a range of CSAS associates and seek to foster interdisciplinary scholarship and the crossing of regional boundaries.
- Preference will be given to events that include a public component and/or a graduate-student-oriented component.
- These events should be open not only to UM faculty and students, but also to faculty and students from universities in the surrounding area.
- Partnerships with other Michigan centers and programs, both those within the International Institute and without, are encouraged.
The organizing faculty associate will serve as the primary contact person. Funds will be disbursed by CSAS to the organizer’s home unit, which will assume responsibility for oversight of funds and for running the event.
All proposals require the signature of the key administrator of the organizer’s home unit, acknowledging the unit’s involvement in hosting the proposed
Eligibility
Organizer must be a CSAS Associate.
Amount
Up to $10,000 per seminar/workshop. For large events, larger amounts might be awarded.
Deadline
November 30 and March 30, annually.
Application Procedures

We will request the following:
- Unit that will oversee the event
- Title of Seminar/Workshop
- Proposed Dates of Seminar/Workshop
- Disciplines
- Name/Title/Affiliation of Other Faculty Involved in Proposal
- Total Amount Requested
- Description of the event (1000 words or less)
- A signed statement or email from the Chief Administrator stating that the unit will serve as the host unit of the proposed event.
Application Review Process & Guidelines
After submission, all applicants are expected to meet with CSAS staff to discuss the proposed budget and logistics of the event; changes to the proposal can be made in response to this meeting. Final proposals will be reviewed by the Executive Committee, with applicants notified by the Center approximately eight weeks after the application deadline.
