Meet the 2023 Summer in South Asian fellows!

Simrun Bose

At UM, I am involved with the United Asian American Organizations, the off-campus student coops, and the Museum of Natural History. This summer, I will be spending time in Mysore as a volunteer for The Organisation for the Development of People, engaging with their women’s education and environmental development programs. After graduating, I hope to pursue urban planning, with a focus on the environment. I am beyond excited for my time in Mysore, and look forward to sharing about my trip!

I am doing an internship at Dasra in Mumbai in which I will be consulting and doing policy research with nonprofits and NGOs to enforce growth in their businesses. I am excited to be in one of the biggest cities in the world and to travel to Bangladesh after to see my family members. I am also so excited to put myself out of my comfort zone.

Lauren Kuzee

Hi! My name is Lauren Kuzee. I am a 5th year student graduating this summer from LSA with a major in  Program in the Environment and  Minor in Art and Design. I am passionate about sustainable agriculture and food justice and cultivating a culture where food is seen as a human right. Through my time at U of M I have been a Manager at the Campus Farm, lived in the student coops for 2 years, and worked with outdoor advocacy in the Society of Les Voyageurs. This summer I’ll be in Dehradun, India volunteering at Navdanya Biodiversity Farms founded by Dr. Vadana Shiva in 1991. After returning from India I am planning on moving to the Bay Area and getting a job in Farm Education working with elementary schoolers.

Matthew Robinson

Hi! My name is Matthew Robinson and I'm from Madison Alabama. I attend the college of Literature, Sciences, and the Arts. I am majoring in biopsychology, cognition, and
neuroscience on the premed track with career aspirations of becoming a forensic psychiatrist. During the fellowship, I plan on working with a health-oriented organization (preferably one in more of a rural area) and want to interact with people constantly throughout my time in India. I feel as though this trip will be incredibly rewarding and look forward to be able to embark on this adventure!

Mackenzie Woock

Hi! My name is Mackenzie, and I’m a second year student pursuing a major in neuroscience. I’m passionate about the intersections where biology, psychology, and public health meet, and I’m excited to learn more about the world of health care as I navigate my pre-medical path. I aspire to become a practicing OBGYN and eventually use my medical degree to educate the community and form policies to ensure all patients receive equitable care. At UMich, I like to stay busy with Students for Reproductive Rights and Justice, Phi Chi Medical Society, The Alba Project, and Delta Gamma sorority. On any given weekend, you can find me grabbing sushi, cheering at a hockey game, or training for my next half marathon!
