35mm film presentation. Kingo Gondo (Toshiro Mifune) leveraged everything he has to overtake a company. But when cold-blooded kidnappers target his family, all his work slowly crumbles around him. Master director Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low, adapted from Ed McBain’s detective novel King’s Ransom, is a police procedural with Shakespearean flourishes wrapped in a commentary on post-war Japanese society.
