The Stockholm University–University of Michigan Collaboration in Research and Education (2009-11) was established with support from Stockholm University (S-U) and University of Michigan Provost’s Office (U-M). The program was implemented by the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia (WCEE), the Center for European Studies-European Union Center (CES-EUC) and the International Exchange Unit (IEU), Stockholm University.

Jonathan M. Feldman is currently an associate professor at Stockholm University in the International Relations unit at the Department of Economic History. Feldman teaches courses on war and conflict, security policy, energy security, and democracy and social change. Feldman’s current research focuses on how regions are successful or not in promoting mass transit manufacturing and the supply of light rail services. His mass transit research has been supported by grants from the Stockholm University faculty and a grant administered by the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, D.C. Feldman has published on mass transportation issues in The American Prospect and the International Journal of Labour Research. Feldman has a B.A. in political studies from Bard College, a Masters in City Planning from MIT, and a Ph.D. in regional planning from Rutgers University. He was also a postgraduate fellow at Columbia University in New York and a postdoctoral fellow at Linköping University.

During his residency at the University of Michigan, Professor Feldman will study the best practices for incubating mass transit technologies of SMART, Sustainable Mobility & Accessibility Research & Transformation, a project at the U-M Transportation Research Institute and Taubman College of Architecture & Urban Planning. His U-M host in September 2011 is Susan Zielinski, Managing Director, SMART.
