Responding to the “Democratic Backslide” in Central and Eastern Europe

Please join us for a virtual seminar with Kinga Brudzinska, Program Director of Future of Europe for GLOBSEC Policy Institute in conversation with John Ciorciari, director of Weiser Diplomacy Center. They will discuss major trends, challenges and opportunities for supporting democracy in central and eastern Europe—particularly the “V4” countries of Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. This event is open to all University of Michigan students.

About the speaker:

Kinga Brudzińska, PhD, is director of the Future of Europe program at the GLOBSEC Policy Institute. She has ten years of professional experience in country-specific and policy analysis and advising. Her main research interests lie in the fields of EU foreign policy and EU institutional architecture, with a particular focus on relations among the Member States, and the concept of differentiated European integration. She has chiefly worked on the “Visegrad” countries of Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia, as well as the Spanish speaking world. Prior to joining GLOBSEC, she worked at the Permanent Representation of Poland to the OECD, the Polish Institute of International Affairs, and the Permanent Secretariat of Community of Democracies. She has authored numerous book chapters and policy articles analyzing the EU and the Latin America and Caribbean region. She is an alumna of the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius Global Governance Network and was a Humanity in Action & Lantos Foundation Senior Fellow. She holds Ph.D. in Arts of Political Science, Faculty of Political Science and Journalism from the University of Warsaw, MA in International Relations from the Faculty of Economics at the Krakow University of Economics, and Diploma in Latin American Studies from Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education in Mexico.
