“This past summer, I interned as an Outreach and Social Services Coordinator (Spanish) at AsylumConnect, a non-profit organization that created the world’s first online platform aimed to help LGBTQ+ asylum-seekers find affirming services. My international studies education provided me with the critical background knowledge and skills I needed to succeed. For example, through my international studies coursework, I learned about asylum law, and about the role of international organizations and NGOs in the human rights sector, which helped me feel more confident about my intern role at AsylumConnect. I also utilized my language and multicultural skills outside the classroom, a testament to the value of a multilingual, globally focused education that PICS offers.”

Future plans: “I'm hoping to study abroad in Switzerland before I graduate in the Winter of 2023. After graduation, I would like to work in the non-profit sector, a think tank, or an international organization and hopefully become a human rights worker. Eventually, I'll like to go to graduate school to specialize in international law, migration studies, and peace and conflict studies.”
