BA International Studies (International Security, Norms and Cooperation), ‘23

Hometown: Originally from Damascus, Syria

Affiliations: A current UROP student and serving as a Transfer Student Ambassador.

“I was born and raised in Syria and when the civil war started in 2011, it affected my education, safety and sense of stability. As I grew older and went through my years of schooling, I noticed how the education system was deteriorating and schools were failing to provide students with an adequate education. In addition, I witnessed violations towards the basic human rights and needs. This inspired me to decide to study abroad and attempt to be a catalyst of positive and much needed change, especially in countries and regions that are vulnerable due to political instability.”

Future plans: “After graduating with my Bachelor's degree, I plan to attend graduate school to get my master's and PhD in International Relations and Human Rights. My career goal is to work with the United Nations and create my own non-profit organization to advocate for human rights and childhood education in countries experiencing war and conflict.”
