Travel Grants of up to $750 USD will be offered to 15 scholars with research interests related to Korea.
Recipients should be faculty or graduate students at an institution of higher learning. Applicants should plan to attend the entire conference and participate in the substantive Q&A portion of each panel. Applications will be evaluated on a competitive basis and special consideration will be given to applicants from the Midwest, particularly those in the Big Ten Academic Alliance. However, we encourage scholars from all institutions interested in participating in this landmark conference to apply, and awards will not be limited to scholars from a specific geographic area.
Deadline for Applications: Oct 19
Notifications will be sent to applicants: Oct 24
Applicants should fill out the online application form. In addition to general applicant information, an itemized list of expenses and a brief statement of interest should be provided.
Please note the following details that may guide your planning for travel to Ann Arbor so that you can estimate your expenses more accurately for the application. Please note that all award recipients will be responsible for making all of their own travel reservations and that the grant will cover transportation and lodging expenses only.
AIRPORT The closest major airport is Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW). This is approximately 30 minutes from Ann Arbor by car. We recommend AirRide, a shuttle service that runs between the airport and Blake Transit Center in downtown Ann Arbor. Please check the website for details. Taxis and ride share options are also available.
LODGING Hotels within walking distance of the conference venue are limited and priced accordingly. However, there are many hotels within 5 miles of campus and both public, taxis, and ride share options are available. If sufficient interest can be determined, the Center may arrange for a block of hotel rooms at a discounted rate. A list of accepted grant recipients will be circulated after the notification period so that attendees can contact each other to make shared accommodation arrangements.
MEALS Breakfast and lunch on the days of the conference will be provided by the Center. Other meals and incidentals will be the responsibility of the recipient and are not allowable expenses for the travel grant.
