Seong Min Yoo

Seong Min Yoo was former presidential candidate of the Bareun Party in the 2017 election and has been a member of the Korean National Assembly (Dong-gu eul, Daegu Metropolitan City) since 2004. Graduating from Seoul National University (Economics) and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (PhD 1987), he worked at the Korea Development Institute and as the president of the Youido Institute, a think-tank of the Grand National Party (GNP). In the government, he has served as the chairman of the National Defense Committee. He has also served as a member of the National Policy Committee, Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, Intelligence Committee, House Steering Committee, and the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee. Yoo was elected as the supreme council member of the GNP at the national convention in 2011, the floor leader of the Saenuri Party (formerly GNP), and chairman of the House Steering Committee in 2015. He has written many books and articles on the Korean economy, especially on issues such as chaebol reform, antitrust law and policy, deregulation, privatization of state-owned enterprises, competitiveness of Korean industries, and industrial policy. His most recent book is Why Do I Live in Politics? (2017).
