Youngju Ryu

Youngju Ryu is Assistant Professor of Korean Literature at the University of Michigan. She received her doctorate from the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at UCLA in 2006. Her first book, Writers of the Winter Republic focuses on Korean literature of the authoritarian era, especially on the role of dissident writers' collectives in literature's politicization. Her recent interest in the phenomenon of political podcasts in Korea grows out of her longstanding preoccupation with the afterlife of the authoritarian era in popular culture.
