In 1937, Chosun Ilbo arranged a corner of ‘a short story from movies’ in the literary page, and published serially short stories of the same title which the literary men writes in it with an influence of contemporary screening movies.
Though it did not last for a long spell, at the first onset, Ahn Hoi-nam published Lost Horizon with an idea from the movie, Lost Horizon (Frank R. Capra, 1937), Lee Sun-hee, since 22 June, made up a story, titled The City of Ladies from the movie, La Kermesse héroïque (Jacues Feyder, 1935), and Park Tae-won wrote The Last Billionaire from the movie Le Dernier Milliardaire (René Clair, 1934) and, lastly, Lee Tae-jun did The Garden of Allah from the same title movie (Richard Boleslawski, 1936).
Though advanced researches took those works lightly by reason of the air of fairy tale, fable and of small quantity as classified as an conte in them, they remain in a reviewable position as ever, on account of novelizing musical factor which are highlighted in movie, implicit subject and of satirical technique and so on.
This paper will examine that they seized on contemporary reality as problems of colonization, class, and sexual discrimination sharply, and tried to appropriate the latest western art, even if the writers of the 30s are studied in terms of technique. Lastly, by focusing on the characteristics of an medium of newspaper and on arrangement with advertisement on paper, their critical mind are expected to be more looked deeply into.
