Wednesday, April 4, 2012
12:00 AM
Room 1636 School of Social Work Building, 1080 South University
Ilhyung Lee, Professor of Law & Senior Fellow, Center for the Study of Dispute Resolution University of Missouri

This presentation examines the decisions by Korean panelists of disputes over domain names, many of which involve Korean parties. These disputes are resolved under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) in 1999. The discussion will offer an analysis of a database of nearly all cases administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in which a Korean panelist or panelists decided the case. There are some decisions of interest, which invite further discussion of international standards, cultural norms and construction, and the Korean presence in the age of the Internet.
