LACS is proud to announce the publication of two books by UM-LACS alumni, Rebekah Pite and Kathleen López.  Here López and Pite pose in front of the their books at the recent Latin American Studies Association (LASA) Book Fair in Washington, D.C.

Pite earned her PhD in history and women’s studies and completed her dissertation in 2007 on the famous Argentine domestic and culinary expert Doña Petrona. Currently Pite is  assistant professor of history at Lafayette College. Her book, Creating a Common Table: Doña Petrona, Women, and Food in Twentieth-Century Argentina was published by University of North Carolina Press in 2013.  Click here for more information on this title.

López completed her PhD in history in 2005, specializing in the historical intersections between Asia and Latin America, especially migrations. Her book Chinese Cubans: A Transnational History, explores the history of the Chinese Cuban community that began with Cuba's infamous "coolie" trade.  It also appeared with University of North Carolina Press in 2013.  Click here for more information on this title.
