LACS Lecture: Learning from Indigenous Community Partners in Guatemala

This event will give us important insights about the challenges and opportunities that student-led organizations and community members face when working together on service-learning projects in Latin America. Olivia Artola Sub will give a presentation about her experiences collaborating with the BlueLab-Sa Nima’ solar lamp project in the Community of Samox-San Lucas, Guatemala. She will also speak about community organizing and Mayan culture.

Olivia Artola Sub
is the President of the Women’s Committee in Samox-San Lucas, a Mayan community located near Cobán, Guatemala. Olivia and her family have hosted the BlueLab-Sa Nima’, a U-M student organization, during their biannual visits to Samox since 2009. She provided support and cultural exchange opportunities while also serving as a key collaborator in design projects and organizing community members for engagement with the group.
