Josep Fradera, Professor, Departament d’Humanitats, Universitat Pompeu Fabra/Barcelona, is a major scholar both of Catalan nationalism and of Spanish late-imperial history, is currently Tinker Professor at the University of Chicago. Fradera works mainly on topics related with the history of the Spanish Empire in XVIII and XIX Centuries, and more specificially in the Spanish Caribbean and the PhilippinesHis most recent book is "La pàtria dels catalans" (in Catalan) ("The Homeland of Catalans), 2009, and is a collection of essays on regional history, culture and politics in XIX and XX Centuries. He is currently working on a book on Colonial special régimes in four empires: the British, French, Spanish and US since 1783.
