On April 1st, 2023, Persatuan Mahasiswa Indonesia di Amerika Serikat (PERMIAS) held an Indonesian Cultural Night to celebrate the culture and traditions that encompass the vast archipelago of Indonesia.
This year, we are focusing on a part of our history called Majapahit, which was an ancient kingdom that ruled over the whole of Indonesia. We incorporated dances, Kahoot, plays, and skits along with traditional Indonesian food, so the wider community can enjoy and benefit from a multi-ethnic and culturally enriching event.
The tickets were sold out within a week of posting, so our turnout rate exceeded our expectations by including guests outside of Ann Arbor.
The GISC funding helped us coordinate the logistics, and without it, we could not secure a venue along with leftover funds for props. On behalf of PERMIAS, we are always thankful for the contribution from GISC.
GISC is proud to cosponsor and fund events that promote the understanding of global Islamic culture and Muslim societies worldwide. Are you an undergraduate student group looking for funding for a similar event? Apply now: https://myumi.ch/RprGw
