Dr. Sean McLoughlin is a Senior Lecturer in Religion, Anthropology and Islam at the University of Leeds. Dr. McLoughlin has published more than 20 journal articles, book chapters and reports on issues concerning religion and ethnicity, diaspora and identity, and trans-national religious movements in the Muslim communities of Britain. He has worked on or acted as consultant to various public projects and lectured in seven countries outside the UK. He is particularly interested in issues that impact diaspora communities - the formation of identity, the role of religion in identity formation, the politics of representation in the community, and the roles that religious institutions play in diaspora communities. Dr. McLoughlin is excited to share his research on these areas to Southeast Michigan and is interested to learn of the issues impacting local Muslim communities.
He will be visiting the U-M on an outreach tour to Southeast Michigan organized as part of the British Council's Our Shared Future project.
