Advising

University of Michigan students, transfer students, and prospective International Institute (II) majors and minors are encouraged to schedule an appointment with an II undergraduate advisor through the online appointment system to discuss prerequisite courses and requirements for any II major or minor. General advising appointments are also available with advisors to discuss the majors or minors, declaring, academic planning, course selection, registration, joint degree programs, Honors plan options, senior releases, career planning, interest in graduate school, and other matters of concern.

Advising Appointments

The International Institute has full-time undergraduate academic advisors. Students are welcome to schedule an appointment with an II advisor through the online appointment system. Advising appointments are available in the following formats: in-person, virtual, or by phone. The II Undergraduate Academic Advising Office is located in Weiser Hall (high-rise building), 500 Church Street, Suite 341 (third floor).

Quick Questions Advising

Prospective and current undergraduate students may email is-advising@umich.edu with quick questions. This shared email inbox is monitored between all the II undergraduate advisors. If you have a quick question, emailing is-advising@umich.edu may be the fastest way for you to receive an answer. Students can also utilize designated walk-in advising hours for quick questions.

Double-up Appointments

Students are encouraged to schedule back-to-back appointment times if they wish to discuss two or more majors or minors within the II. For example, if you plan to major in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REES) and minor in Islamic Studies, please reserve two advising sessions in a row through the online appointment system.
