Imara Dawson, Chief Administrator and Managing Director of the International Institute, has been selected as a member of the Public Policy Committee of the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA). Dawson will serve a three-year term (2020-23) on the committee, which works closely with several organizations for legislative issues, including the Coalition for International Education and the Alliance for International Exchange.

The focus of the Coalition in recent years has been the Higher Education Act, and within it Title VI, which provides significant funding to the University of Michigan through the five National Resource Centers and six Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships housed at the International Institute. The committee also focuses on issues including the impact of recent changes in international relations on international education and new restrictions and oversight of international engagement.
