The purpose of the Fulbright Program is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries. The State Department makes Fulbright fellowships available to over 1,500 U.S. students annually to study, conduct research, teach English, or train in the creative arts in more than 155 countries worldwide.

Fulbright English Teaching Assistants:

- Are not required to have teaching experience
- Are placed outside of capital cities
- Assist 12-20 hours per week in class
- Serve as an American cultural ambassador
- May pursue individual study/research plans in addition to ETA responsibilities
- Are placed at elementary, secondary, and university levels
