Faculty Grants
2024-25 Call for Proposals

The Center for Emerging Democracies (@umichDemocracy) seeks proposals for faculty-led research projects that address themes related to authoritarianism and democracy, broadly understood. All Michigan faculty are eligible to apply.

The grants support both individual and collaborative faculty-led research. Proposals may include traveling to research sites, bringing domestic and international collaborators to the University of Michigan for brief residencies, initiating workshops, and/or devising research partnerships with academic institutions or NGOs. Funds may be requested for new projects or to supplement existing projects.

Funds cannot be used for salary support, course releases, equipment purchases, or expenses related to publication such as translation, publishing subventions, or rights to illustrations.

Awards range from $1,000 to $10,000, depending on the number of successful proposals. Deadline for submission of proposals is December 15, 2024. Awardees will be notified by January 31, 2025.

Proposals should include:

  1. Faculty Funding request form
  2. One-page CV for each principal organizer/participant;
  3. Research proposal no longer than 1,000 words; and
  4. Itemized budget including all sources of support (pending and confirmed).

Proposals should be submitted as a single PDF document to [email protected].
