Julia Field, International Studies and Women's Studies
Julia worked with Apne Aap Women Worldwide in New Delhi. She studied the social understanding of sexuality at a sex trafficking shelter in India. Studied how the understanding of sexuality within the culture influenced the individual understanding and self-concept of the survivor as well as the rehabilitation process.
Nader Hakim, Psychology
Nader worked with Public Health Research Institute of India in Yadavgiri. Nader conducted a qualitative study of Muslim youth in India to develop a thematic review of issues and practices in sexual behavior and health. Goal was to design effective interventions in groups with higher rates of HIV and/or other STDs.
Martha Johnson, Economics/International & Comparative Studies
Martha interned with EduCARE India in Hoshiarpur. The focus of her project was researching how non-governmental organizations in India were using and adapting the tool of micro-finance to assist Indian women.
Alexandra Passarelli, Global Health & Environment in International Studies
Alexandra interned with Public Health Institute of India (PHFI) in New Delhi, India. She researched the interplay of environmental and genetic determinants of diabetes and obesity among rural-to-urban migrants in India.
Sonya Usman, Political Science & International Studies
Sonya volunteered with Shramik Bharti to study the water crisis by assisting them in their efforts of lessoning the crisis through hygiene education, hand washing initiatives, and water sanitation programs. Researched the effectiveness of the programs and processes that Shramik Bharti used to alleviate the water crisis.
