To celebrate its 60th anniversary, in 2019-20, CREES has organized a series of signature events by prominent scholars, artists, and public figures that will feature the region and highlight important topics in the field. Among the distinguished speakers during the winter term are Yevgenia Albats, radio host for Ekho Moskvy and current Distinguished Fellow at the U-M International Institute, MIT professor Kate Brown, and Russian artist Gluklya.

In addition to 60th Anniversary events, our series on environmental issues facing the region continues. This  includes a talk by Yuson Jung on ecological stewardship in the Bulgarian wine industry, and a lecture on the logging industry in the Russian Far East by U-M professors Kathleen Bergen and Joshua Newell.
