The Steering Committee of the Copernicus Center for Polish Studies (CCPS) at the University of Michigan condemns the antisemitic gesture of Grzegorz Braun, a representative from the Confederation Party, who today publicly extinguished a Hanukkah menorah in the chambers of the Polish Parliament (Sejm). We salute the immediate and unequivocal condemnation of Braun's actions by the Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, the sanctions against Braun by the Sejm, and the apology issued by Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś to the entire Jewish Community in Poland for Braun's antisemitic gesture.
