The Global Islamic Studies Center (GISC) has received an Enterprise Fund award from the International Institute to develop stronger ties with our campus partners and between GISC and the local community. Award funds will be used to seek internship possibilities for U-M students in the local community; to recruit Muslim American students for U-M from the area; and to create the Michigan Islamic Studies Hub website, which will showcase programs and events at U-M and other universities and community organizations in southeast Michigan. This award will enable GISC to consolidate the center's position as the leading program in Global Islamic studies in southeast Michigan, which boasts the oldest, largest, and most diverse Muslim population in the U.S.

Karla Mallette, GISC director and professor of Italian and Middle East studies, and Gottfried Hagen, professor of Middle East studies, are the project leads for this initiative. More information about Enterprise Fund awards can be found on the International Institute website.
