There is a triangle of challenges that Arab women face in America and in the Arab world: religion, stereotypes and taboos. The taboo of religion is the most challenging and has sparked interest among universities and professors throughout the country. Dr. Mary Assel, Arab-American author and director of the English Language Institute at Henry Ford Community College will share the history behind the Arab female oppression, the differences between culture and religion, and the dilemmas and predicaments Arab women face as they struggle to deal with stereotypes and the declaration of freedom in their newly formed liberal societies.
