Join the Global Islamic Studies Center on September 20th at 7:00 PM at the State Theatre for a screening of the new documentary film Where Olive Trees Weep (2024) featuring grassroots Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi, Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, renowned physician and NYT bestselling author, Dr. Gabor Maté, journalist Amira Hass & more. This screening will be followed by a pre-recorded Q&A with the filmmakers.

Where Olive Trees Weep offers a searing window into the struggles and resilience of the Palestinian people, activists, and journalists under Israeli occupation. It explores themes of loss, trauma, and the quest for justice. We also see Dr. Gabor Maté offer trauma-healing work to a group of women who were tortured in Israeli prisons.

The film gives background to the current crisis in Israel/Palestine and brings to light the lives of people the filmmakers met on their 2022 journey in the occupied West Bank. These universally human stories speak of intergenerational pain, trauma, and resilience.
