Sergei Parajanov's "Color of the Pomegranate", one of the greatest masterpieces of the 20th century, is a biography of the Armenian troubadour Sayat Nova. The film reveals the poet's life through his poetry rather than a conventional narration of important events. Through scenes and images of Sergei Parajanov's imagination and Sayat Nova's poems, we see the poet grow up, fall in love, enter a monastery and die. These episodes are depicted by images from poems that were rarely seen or heard. Virtually every aspect of this revolutionary work is void of dialog or camera movement.
