The Hijabi Monologues focuses on sharing the stories of Muslim women who wear the headscarf, or hijab. The production hopes to create a better understanding of the lives of Muslim women, generate empathy and a sense of shared humanity, while at the same time describing their unique experiences. The characters of each monologue wear the hijab, but the hijab is not the focus of any story. Although many of these stories resonate with other Muslims and women in general, they do not claim to tell every story or speak for everyone. The Monologues feature Muslim undergraduate and graduate women from the University of Michigan.Sponsored by the Center for Engineering Diversity and Outreach, Rackham Student Government.
