Iason AthanasiadisWriter, Photographer, & Television ProducerAn on-the-ground assessment illustrated by images shot in 2005 and 2010 for the Corbis Agency on Afghanistan's present state and future course. As one of the few Farsi-speaking journalists living in Afghanistan Mr. Athanasiadis has unique access to first- hand accounts of the Afghan situation on the ground. In April 2010 he embedded with the 82nd Airborne in Kandahar; and, in September 2010, he was an election observer and later travelled to Herat to interview former Taliban militants. The diversity of these experiences provides a unique view through the lens of a photojournalist documenting the reality of the constantly evolving environment that is Afghanistan.Sponsored by the University of Michigan’s Center for Middle Eastern and North African Studies and Center for South Asian Studies.
