Undergraduate Study Abroad Scholarship

All travel must follow current guidelines, which are detailed in the International Institute Travel Policy.

The Center for Japanese Studies provides a limited number of scholarships for undergraduate students who will participate in a study abroad academic program in Japan, as well as eligible language programs offered in the United States.  Approximately five to seven scholarships are awarded on a merit-basis in an annual competition each spring.

Important Note: It is the responsibility of the student to find the appropriate study abroad program and to complete the necessary application process to enroll in the program.  For assistance in finding the appropriate program, see the Study in Japan and Summer Language Programs sections of the CJS web site, see a study abroad advisor in your school/college (e.g., Center for Global and Intercultural StudyInternational Programs in EngineeringRoss Global Initiatives), or visit the International Center Education Abroad Office.

Application for Winter 2024 study abroad programs are due October 15, 2023. Students who are applying for programs to be in-country in Japan during Winter 2024, including students who will be enrolled in the Japanese spring semester with classes from April to July, should apply for this deadline. Application for programs taking place in Spring-Summer 2024 and beyond, including GCC courses that will travel to Japan in May, will be available in January 2024.
