European Union Study Abroad Program, Leuven and Brussels, Belgium: “The EU as a Global Actor.” May 8-22, 2011. University of Michigan/University of Windsor

“An amazing trip and an incredible learning experience. As much as I appreciate the trip now, I think as my understanding of the EU and Europe grows, so will my gratitude.  I truly cannot think of a better way to spend time in Europe learning about their governmental system. Thanks again.” Lydia Austin, Undergraduate Student, University of Michigan.

European Union Study Abroad Program in Leuven and Brussels led by Stephen Brooks, professor of political science at the University of Windsor, adjunct professor of political science at U-M, and director of the Ottawa Internship Program at U-M Dearborn. The two-week, highly concentrated program  included visits to the EU Parliament, Commission and Council; NATO; the ICC; US Mission to the EU; and other international institutions; as well as cultural excursions. Students taking the course are required to complete recommended readings before arriving to Belgium, attend all seminars and program activities, and submit a 15-page paper related to the seminar’s theme at the end of the study tour.

U-M students received funding to defray costs of the study tour from the Center for European Studies/European Union Center of Excellence as part of the CES/EUCE-MI 2011 Summer Research and Internship Grants program.
