(From United States - South Africa Higher Education Network)

The Provost of the University of Michigan, Martin Philbert, visited South Africa in August 2018 as part of his trip to Africa that included visits to Ghana and Ethiopia. Provost Philbert’s visit reinforces the University of Michigan’s investment in developing research collaborations in Africa. It is envisaged that the engagement during the visits will culminate in expanding long-term collaboration and in engaging more deeply with faculty, students and the University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars (UMAPS) fellowship program alumni. The United States - South Africa Higher Education Network launched in July this year in Johannesburg, South Africa. The goal of the network is to increase the number of permanent academic and professional staff at South African universities who hold doctoral degrees.
