African Heritage Initiative (AHI)

The long-term goal of the African Heritage Initiative (AHI) is to deepen intellectual engagement with the broader domain of African humanities through research projects with African colleagues. “African heritage” is a critical means by which people engage with the past and define their ties to others in the present. AHI brings together scholars from Africa and the University of Michigan to explore the many assumptions circulating about “heritage” and the uses to which it is put.
