African Heritage and Humanities Initiative (AHHI)

The long-term goal of the African Heritage and Humanities Initiative (AHHI) is to deepen intellectual engagement, with the broader domain of African humanities, through research projects with African colleagues. “African heritage” is a critical means by which people engage with the past and define their ties to others in the present. The initiative brings together scholars from our African-partner universities and the University of Michigan to explore the many assumptions circulating about “heritage” and the uses to which it is put.
