Over the course of several months Neres-akhpar discovers this ‘gift’ has strings attached and endeavors to return the ‘gift’ to restore his freedom and dignity.
Lecture. “A VIEW OF ARMENIAN CINEMA,” Manoogian Simone Foundation Visiting Scholar Artsvi Bakhchinyan.
Film. A PIECE OF SKY [KTOR ME YERKINQ] (Henrik Malyan, director; 1980)
This is a societal critique told through the love story between Torik (Ashot Adamyan), a shy outcast janitor, and Anjel (Galina Belyayeva), a prostitute. Orphan Torik lives with his well meaning aunt who tries to find him a wife, however due to his job and status no women will have him. One night Torik visits Anjel, falls in love and declares to his aunt that he wants this prostitute as his wife. Together these two marginalized characters are redeemed and brought back into society through traditional rites.
