Fellowships for Incoming Graduate Students

Deadline: March 1

The Center for Armenian Studies offers Armenian Studies Fellowships to incoming graduate students who expect to focus their graduate studies on themes relevant to Armenian studies and who are admitted to PhD or MA degree programs in the departments and centers listed below:

The scope and number of fellowships awarded will be contingent upon available funds.

Candidates must first apply to and be accepted in one of the departments or centers listed above. Applications for graduate studies for all above departments and centers at the University of Michigan are submitted through the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies. They must be submitted online at the website of the Rackham Graduate School.

Nominations for CAS graduate fellowships are made by the relevant departments and centers once a student is admitted into a program. CAS is not involved in the admission process. CAS incoming graduate student fellowships, when approved, are integrated in the financial package offered by departments and centers to incoming graduate students.

Departments or centers should forward their nominations to the Center for Armenian Studies by March 1st.

Nominating departments and centers should provide:

  • A copy of all application materials submitted for consideration of admission
  • A letter of support from the department chair and/or faculty advisor, including
  • information on other funding to be offered to the nominee
  • the proposed use of Armenian Studies Fellowship funds
  • a brief explanation about how this student's work (if not obvious from the application) would contribute to Armenian studies

The final selection of CAS graduate fellows will be made by the Center for Armenian Studies Executive Committee upon the recommendation of these departments and centers.

Applicants will be notified in early April.

The Center for Armenian Studies expects its fellows to participate in the center’s organized and sponsored activities, such as lectures, community events, symposia, workshops, and conferences.

Questions regarding applications and departmental funding should be addressed to the above departments and centers.

Questions regarding CAS fellowships should be directed to cas.fellowships@umich.edu or 734.763.0622.
