ACADEMICS

The University of Michigan is among the world’s most prolific and prestigious centers for the production of knowledge on South Asia, and is the country’s foremost leader in international education. Our Masters and Graduate Certificate Program students benefit from direct interaction with more than 40 faculty members at Michigan who devote all or part of their research to understanding South Asian histories, cultures, economies, and politics. Our students can avail of course offerings in humanities and social science departments, as well as in the schools of law, public health, architecture and planning, natural resources and the environment, and public policy.

The Center for South Asian Studies

(CSAS) awards a Master’s degree in South Asian Studies, as well as a Certificate of Graduate Studies for students enrolled in other graduate degree programs. The Center also offers a dual MA/MBA degree with the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. The MA program provides students with a broad interdisciplinary approach to their chosen field of study, and the flexibility to pursue individual programs of interest. The Graduate Certificate program is a shorter inter-disciplinary program intended to supplement and complement on-going study in a discipline or in a professional school.

Our Master’s and Certificate students are an integral part of the Center for South Asian Studies, which provides a forum for intellectual dialogue and learning with true interdisciplinary vitality.

The Center offers Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships (FLAS). We also encourage student travel for study, internships, or independent research, and provide assistance in securing sponsorship and resources.
