Through its seventeen area and thematic centers, the International Institute (II) offers students the opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs in order to deepen their understanding of world regions and global themes.

Degrees offered through the International Institute’s centers include concentrations and minors, as well as master’s and certificate programs. Several centers have partnered with professional schools throughout the university to offer dual master’s degrees, combining expertise in a world region with disciplines such as medicine, law, and architecture.

Support for Students

The International Institute provides generous support to students for internships, research, and study overseas. 

Information sessions are conducted during the fall and winter semesters for the International Institute Individual Fellowships and the U.S. Department of State Fulbright Student Program.

International Institute Programming

The International Institute’s centers sponsor conferences, lectures, exhibits, and cultural performances throughout the year. These events enrich students’ educational experience and are an excellent opportunity to network with faculty and other students. View upcoming events.

Photo ContestRules of entry, submission guidelines, past winners

The II holds a photo contest each year for students affiliated with the institute and its 17 centers and programs. If you traveled abroad for research, study, or an internship in affiliation with the International Institute or one of its centers or programs, you are eligible to compete.
