Dr. Timothy R. B. Johnson Johnson is Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women's & Gender Studies. He completed his medical education and training at the University of Michigan, the University of Virginia and Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Johnson is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and a Fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). He is also an honorary fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, an honorary fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, and a Fellow ad eundem of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London.
In 1993, Dr. Johnson became Bates Professor of Diseases of Women and Children, the first endowed professorship at the University of Michigan (1896) and the first endowed professorship of OBGYN in the US. He initiated the Michigan Medicine Women's Health Program which received designation by the US Department of Health and Human Services as a National Center of Excellence in Women's Health. The University of Michigan OBGYN Department and the Women's Health Program reached the top tier of academic, clinical and research programs as recognized by such measures US News & World Report and NIH metrics.
Dr. Johnson was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from ACOG, the Distinguished Merit Award from the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), and membership in the Society of Scholars of Johns Hopkins University. He is Past President of the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO Lifetime Achievement Award, 2012), Past Editor of the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics, and is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine of the National Academies of Science.
