Southeast Asian Language Scholarship

The Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) is pleased to offer students scholarships for studying Filipino, Indonesian, Thai, or Vietnamese language.

CSEAS will offer $1000 scholarships on a competitive basis to students enrolling in the full sequence (Fall and Winter semesters) of Filipino, Indonesian, or Vietnamese language. 

CSEAS will offer $2000 scholarships on a competitive basis to students enrolling in the full sequence (Fall and Winter semesters) in Thai.

The scholarships are available at any level (beginning, intermediate, and advanced) of study and to undergraduate and graduate students. Preference will be to undergraduates in their first or second years at the University.

The scholarships will be given in two disbursements, paid out after the drop-add deadline each semester. Students must complete the two-course sequence.

Applications for the 2015-2016 academic year will be due by March 13, 2015.

Applying for the First Year Southeast Asian Language Scholarships: 

A complete application will include:

  • A completed application form
  • A one-page personal statement
  • A recommendation from a former or current language teacher (if possible) or from another teacher or instructor
  • Academic transcripts
